Top Camera Picks from CES 2012

CES (Consumer Electronics Show) is a show dedicated to the world of high technology and the various innovations. Over the years, the CES has become the most important gatherings of this style as are the Computex or IFA. This show takes place in the beginning of the year in Las Vegas, where manufacturers, journalists and fans of new technologies come together for a week.

FIRST PICK: The panoramic (360 degree view) camera by Tamaggo

At first glance, the object does not look like much: a kind of plastic eggs, available in various colors. But it is actually a stand-alone device for capturing 360° hemispherical, horizontal or vertical panoramas. The device incorporates an orientation sensor used to automatically determine the type of view to produce. With the lens up or down, it will be a photo spherical, with the camera held straight ahead, and a horizontal panorama with the camera tilted to the side.

The advantage of this solution is that with its 14 megapixel sensor and 360° panoramas lenses simply make a single picture to get a result; at least that’s the promise of the manufacturer, since the product was not functional on CES presentation.

Overclocking: Intel Offers an Extended Warranty

The Intel Group offers an additional guarantee for the owners of its unbridled processors, through which a replacement is possible in case of breakage.

If you are a fan of overclocking and have one of the recent unbridled Intel processor which are identified by their suffix K which include following processors: Core i5-2500K, Core i7-2600K, Core i7-2700K, Core i7-3930K, or suffix X as the Core i7-3960X, this is something that might interest you.

The giant of Santa Clara (Intel) has indeed announced the Performance Tuning Protection Plan, which provides an additional guarantee to replace the chip if its damaged after the overclocking (performed in right conditions, of course).

Core i7-2700K and Core i7-3960X

It can be purchased within one year after you buy a processor and limited to a single processor replacement guarantee, it costs between 20 and 35 dollars, depending on the processor model. There is no limit on the number of replacements taken.

If you are interested, you have to use the Intel website and have a PayPal online payment account (this is the only method of payment proposed).

How to Save Battery Life and RAM in Android Mobile Phones

Do you think the battery of your Android phone dies too fast? Do you think your device is too slow to respond and the memory amount it has always isn’t enough? I also had this problem with my Samsung Galaxy Ace when I just bought it – its battery lasted for less than a day, it took the phone many endless moments to open an app, and I always had that annoying feeling that my phone was short of RAM and built-in memory…
However, soon I discovered some very easy tips that help to save battery life on any Android phone and make it much faster. I’ve been following these tips for several months, and now the battery of my Galaxy Ace lasts for about three days (though I listen to music, read books, play Sudoku and speak much), and the phone has become much faster.

Thermaltake Level 10 GT Case: Better, Bigger, Cheaper

Thermaltake introduced the BMW Group Designworks USA co-designed Level 10 computer case a while back, and I thought the thing was really cool. The big downside was that the case was a bit cramped for some geeks with large video cards, and it also cost almost $800 bucks.

Thermaltake BMW Level 10 M Mouse: Skeletor Returns!

Thermaltake and BMW’s DesignWorksUSA came up with the Level 10 computer case a while back. Now, they teamed up again for the eye-popping Level 10 M Mouse. The mouse was designed with ergonomics in mind, and looks like it’s aimed squarely at the gaming community.

Shogun Bros. Ballista MK-1 Gaming Mouse: Made for Snipers

Anyone who’s played FPS games knows that they usually require a lot of precision sniping. That’s what Shogun Bros. were thinking when they developed their latest mouse, the Ballista MK-1. It was specifically designed for the sharpshooting FPS gamer.

35 Foot-Long “Eye of America” Camera Shoots Two-Story Tall Photos

Two years ago, I got my portrait taken. It was after graduation and was actually for our yearbook. The studio sent me the prints a few weeks later, and it was huge. I hadn’t seen such a huge print in my face, ever. Needless to say, my mom loved it and had it framed. My huge face is now hanging on the wall of our living room.
But anyway, do you agree that the size of portraits are a reflection of the (figurative) size of a person’s spirit? If you do, then you might want to say that great minds think alike, because that’s what Dennis Manarchy thought of for his 35-foot long mammoth of a camera called the “Eye of America.”

Nike+ FuelBand: A Jawbone UP That Actually Works?

I was pretty happy that I held off purchasing a Jawbone UP wristband because users have reported massive failures. Since then, Jawbone has had to offer full refunds to anyone who made a claim. The Nike FuelBand reminds me of the UP, but unlike the UP it might actually work. Plus, it looks much cooler.

Future Watches

As nostalgic as we are for horology, the developments in wearable digital media platforms are introducing some thrilling competition. Down at CES, tech heads were treated to a selection of accessories with intelligent interfaces, understandably weighted toward the fitness market, where pocket-less fashion necessitates uber-mobile technology. Below you'll find GPS-tracking, heart rate-monitoring, statistics-organizing and time-telling watches that are making a go at usurping your old Timex.

Angry Birds Flash Drives Look More Cute Than Angry

I would have thought that people would be sick of Angry Birds by now. I guess not, seeing as how these Angry Birds USB drives by EMTEC have arrived. As usual you get the various Angry Birds and pig to store your data with.

FOUR: In the Future, Tokyoflash LED Watches Will Still Be Confusing

The Tokyoflash Kisai On Air watch design was probably a fluke in the sense that it didn’t make reading the time off the face of the watch extremely hard. Now continuing the trend of complicated watch designs for Tokyoflash is FOUR.

Canon EOS C300 Pre-Orders Begin At $15,999

Canon told us to expect a $20,000 price tag and a staggered release for its EOS C300 cinema camcorder, but the company's doing a bit better than its word: today, you can pre-order both the EF and PL mount versions of the Super 35mm CMOS rig for $15,999 each. That's just the body-only price, mind you, so you'll still need some heavy-duty optics to go with it (if you don't have some L glass sitting around), and Canon's hoping to tempt you with its CN-E 14.5-60mm T2.6 L S and CN-E 30-300mm T2.95-3.7 L S zoom lenses for $42,750 and $44,650 respectively. We don't know how those values stack up against industry norms, but that's definitely outside our prosumer budget. In a world that's gradually transitioning to higher resolutions, do you agree with Canon that 1080p is the place to be? Vote with your dollars at our source link. According to B&H, the cameras and lenses will ship sometime after January 30th, and while you wait, you can take a look at our hands-on pictures below.

Trax MkII Concept Watch is Militaristic and Easy to Read

Remember that futuristic concept watch I told you about yesterday, It had all the makings of a great watch, except that it was way too complicated for my taste.

Watch designs featured by Tokyoflash are usually extremely complicated, which makes reading the time off of them – which happens to be the main purpose of watches, by the way – more difficult than necessary. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised when I chanced upon the Trax MkII Concept Watch.

AMD Showcases Alternative to Intel’s Thunderbolt

After a slow start Intel’s Thunderbolt (also known as Light Peak) technology is starting to gain popularity among the OEMs, with Apple being the first and biggest proponent of the technology so far. Now it seems AMD wants a piece of this action as well, so they have come up with their own variant of the technology, called Lightning Bolt.

The Top Ten Products Of 2011

2011 was a banner year for filmmaking tools.
In a landmark year for production and post-production gear, 2011 will most likely be remembered for the tragic events in Northern Japan. Although minor compared to the devastation and loss of life, all the major camera manufacturers (Sony, Canon, Panasonic, etc.) were greatly affected by the disaster leaving factories badly damaged, which disrupted production and distribution for the entire year.

Sony Debuts The F65 In Hollywood

Right before its launch at IBC in Amsterdam this weekend, Sony Electronics debuted its new flagship CineAlta high-def camera – the F65. Just on specs alone, the camera will set a new standard for high-end digital cinema camera systems. The F65 delivers true 4K resolution at 4025 x 2160 and can output 16-bit Linear RAW files. What makes the camera truly unique is that it contains an 8K, 20-megapixel sensor (8768 x 2324 resolution), which is the highest resolution in any camera in its class, including the RED EPIC. With the rollout of nearly 9,000 SXRD 4K digital projectors, it was inevitable that Sony would jump into the 4K space. But 8K.

Nokia Lumia 900 4G LTE Windows Phone Enters Smartphone Wars

While hardware is important when deciding on your next smartphone, the OS and apps also have a lot do to with it. This is one thing that Apple understood well with the iPhone, as has Android. The new Nokia Lumia 900 smartphone looks gorgeous, and runs the latest version of the Windows Phone OS. But will its looks and 4G LTE connectivity be enough to make it a true contender in the smartphone wars, given the relatively small impact Windows Phone has had on the market to date?

55-inch Sony Crystal LED Display Has 6 Million LEDs

I’m still rocking a several year-old plasma TV and thinking it might be time to step into a the normal LCD/LED backlit era. Now, Sony has already gone beyond that. The company has unveiled the next generation in LED TVs at CES and it is called the Crystal LED Display. The screen has the ultimate in display technology – an individual LED dot for each pixel and color.

Razer Project Fiona Has Tablet Form, PC Specs, Console Controls

Not content with releasing an overpriced, gimmicky laptop, Razer continues to attract attention and hopefully customers by revealing a concept tablet aimed towards PC gamers. If that idea has you confounded, its codename “Project Fiona“ won’t stop the head scratching.

I’ll share the facts before I chime in with my two cents. Project Fiona has an Intel Core i7 CPU, a 10.1″ 1280×800 touchscreen, Dolby 7.1 surround sound, sensors in the form of an accelerometer, magnetometer and a 3-axis gyro, controllers with force-feedback, as well as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Polaroid SC1630 16MP Smart Camera Runs Android

While there was no Lady Gaga to present this Polaroid camera at CES, it still has some interesting features, since the whole thing is powered by Android. In a world with powerful cameras integrated into every smartphone, why shouldn’t it makes sense to have Android run a camera instead?

Dual Lens Camera DVR Records Your Comings and Goings

Cameras in vehicles have started to catch on in parts of the world as a way of documenting traffic accidents. While this particular camera is designed for just that purpose, I could see it being used to stitch together some other interesting video content as well.

LOOPO: The Clippable, Wearable USB Drive

Flash drives are becoming more of a necessity and less of a luxury. I used to travel with blank CDs stashed in my briefcase, just in case I needed to copy huge files, and fast. Now I forego the CDs and just go with my trusty USB drive instead.

PumPing Tap Concept Ejects Electronics to Eliminate Extra Energy Expenditure

It’s common knowledge by now that leaving most electronic devices plugged in will cause them to draw a small amount of power even if they’re turned off. It’s also common knowledge that toasters make bread pop up as soon as they’re toasted. Putting these two bits of common knowledge together – or not – a group of Korean designers came up with a spring-loaded socket that ejects the plug of an unused appliance.

Bracketron’s GreenZero Chargers Stop Charging at 100% Battery Power

People are becoming more and more green these days. And by green, I mean in how conscious they are of how their actions can affect the environment.

Electricity is one of the things that everyone can consume less of to help the environment. A lot of people aren’t aware of it, but leaving appliances and electronics plugged into chargers even when they’re already fully charged is a huge energy waster. Concept designs like the Eco-Socket and the PumPing Tap Concept all work with the concept of stopping the flow of energy once the device is fully charged or when it’s not used, respectively.

Eco-Socket: Plug and Pop

I’ve been seeing a lot of electrical socket concepts lately. Maybe it’s because some people are finally more aware of the dangers of leaving devices that are no longer being used plugged in, or it could be because some have realized what a waste it is to keep electronic stuff plugged in all the time. Either that, or it’s just some sort of weird socket trend.

You can use the Dialug to schedule or set when you want power to flow through. But for everything else, there’s the Eco-Socket.

Nikon announces new flagship D4 DSLR

Two years ago Nikon announced the D3s, which was to be their flagship camera then. That camera set the benchmark for low-light performance and had the competition struggling to catch up to it. Today Nikon is back with their new flagship DSLR, the Nikon D4, which improves upon the already excellent low-light performance of the D3s and this time, makes it even faster.

The World’s Smallest USB Stick

Manufacturers are fond of playing with claims that their product was the smallest or the biggest in the market –and so, a company called Deonet could easily win the claims for the smallest USB stick in the world, how? The company have just introduced a 19.5 x 14.5 x 2.9 millimeters USB stick that comes in 4GB, 8GB and 16GB storage capacities.
The World's Smallest USB Stick
That incredible size was accomplished through a “Micro UDP chip (where UDP stands for the USB Disk In Package assembly process, which sees the controller, flash IC, substrate and passive components molded into a very small, single package), which is less than half the physical size of other USB memory solutions.”
Till now the price is still in secrecy but the world’s smallest drive should be available near January.

CODEX LED Watch Is About as Cryptic as They Come

If you’re looking for a watch that looks cool, and is almost impossible for anyone but you to figure out, you might want to check out the CODEX watch concept, which tells time using a unique display that seems almost incomprehensible – until you understand the trick.

At first glance you’ll look at the LED display on the CODEX and say “WTF time is it?” But once you understand how it works, it’s actually not that hard to read, and you can actually tell time at a glance.
